What To Do When Your Dog Doesn’t Want To Go For Walks Anymore

A common problem I deal with among dogs that I work with is the loss of the desire to go for walks.

Owners who know their dog used to love going on walks are baffled when they suddenly don’t want to anymore, and use every trick and treat in the book to try and get the spark back.

How can you get your dog to want to go for walks again?

First of all, this behaviour may very well be an element of depression, so before you go any further, read how you can spot and treat depression in dogs here.

If it isn’t that, the other thing that I’d really make sure to check out is your dog’s physical health, as they might be starting to feel pain from walking or moving around.

If you don’t address any physical issues, you can entice them with all the treats in the world, but that can only go so far if there is something physically holding them back from enjoying walks.

So, if your dog isn’t as enthusiastic about walks as they once were, before you begin using treats to bribe them, take them for a check-up to make sure that they are in good physical health.
